ITS TIME.........FOR A WOMAN DIVISION

The UFC is the major leagues of MMA but it is behind the times when it comes to female fighting. For years now talented and tough woman have been competing in exciting fights and now it's time for them to do it in the UFC. Not everyone wants to see two women beat and bloody each other, who cares, it's the 21st century and whatever men can do so can women.
So Dana White, bring on the women.

4 OUT OF 5 AINT BAD

UFC 97 is in the books and 4 out of the 5 fighters I predicted to win their fight did just that, won their fight. Silva, Rua, Quarry and Kongo all came out victorious just as I predicted in a pre-event blog. My only losing pick was that of David Loiseau, who I thought would be able to handle Ed Herman. The results say I'm wrong, but I still don't know how far off I was cuz UFC producers chose not to air that fight. I was really looking forward to this fight and am very dis-
appointed that they (UFC) continually leave certain fights out, especially when these pay-per-views are so pricey.
Anyways, the kid is 4-1 at predicting winners and as UFC 98 approaches I will let y'all know who's walking away victorious.

Peace peace chicken grease

BOO SPIDER BOO

Anderson Spider Silva may have won his match against Thales Leites at UFC 97 but he sure didn't win any more fans. Both fighters were boo'ed throughout the fight due to a lack of action and when Silva's arm was raised after a 5 round unanimous decision the fans were chanting "GSP" even thought St.Pierre wasn't even on the fight card. Another sucessful title defense for Silva but a slip in the POUND FOR POUND rankings if you ask me. Personally, I've had GSP ranked ahead of Silva for some time now, but I felt I was being somewhat bias, as I am a Canadian like GSP. However, after another lackluster performance by Silva, preceded by a very aggresive and one-side title defense by St.Pierre over another UFC Champion, I think a legitimate case can be made for GSP being the P4P best.
It will be interesting to see who Joe Silva and Dana White choose to be Anderson Silva's next opponent as another poor showing by the Spider could drastically reduce his drawing power and his future pay-outs. If its a fight at 185, I can see a rematch with Nate Marquardt or Dan Henderson (assuming he beats Micheal Bisping following TUF TEAM US VS TEAM UK) or else another venture into the 205 division.
Dana White mentioned at a press conference that GSP should not overlook the ever dangerous Thiago Alves with thoughts of a fight against Anderson Silva. I doubt Georges is the kind of fighter that overlooks anything or anyone but just hearing White mention the possibility of a GSP-Spider super-fight gives me goosebumps. I cant wait for St.Pierre to prove that he is the best pound for pound fighter in the UFC right now.

UFC 97 - THE END OF THE ICEMAN

Well UFC 97 in Montreal has come and gone and just like I predicted so has Chuck Liddell's career. The Iceman walked to the ring looking confident and in the best shape of his life, but 4 and a half minutes into a fairly even first round the fight was over and so was Chuck's carrer. Rua tagged him with a left that came from a mile away knocking Liddell to the ground and after being unable to defend himself from a fury from Shogun the fight was stopped. Having loss 4 of his last 5 fights, 3 by KO, it is time for this legendary fighter and future hall of famer to ride off into the sunset. After all that Chuck Liddell has done for the UFC and the sport of MMA its too bad it has to end like this but its not unusual, most sports icons stick around a little too long, incur a few unnecessary losses and tarnish their reputation just slightly before hanging it up.

After the fight Liddell spoke of talking with friends, family and his fight team to decide on his fututre but at a press conference Dana White point-blank said that Chuck was done and that we will never see him fight in the UFC again. We may see the Iceman again someday, but I doubt it will be in the UFC. He may still be able to sell seats again, but in the UFC you also have to be able to win. Thats why you dont, and wont, see Kimbo Slice in the UFC.

POUND FOR POUND TOP 5

There are a lot of great fighters in the UFC, but with all the different weight classes you wont see some match ups between two greats so we have the POUND FOR POUND list to determine who the best fighters are.

1-GEORGES ST.PIERRE
2-ANDERSON SILVA
3-LYOTO MACHIDA
4-RASHAD EVANS
5-DIEGO SANCHEZ

I think one day we will see the dream fight of GSP vs Silva, I just hope they are both still in their prime. Next month at UFC 98 Evans fights Machida for the LHW Championship, should be a great fight and another victory for the Dragon. Penn, Florian and Sanchez were all tied for my #5 POUND FOR POUND BEST but I went with Sanchez cuz I feel he is the eventual LW Champ once all the fights between these 3 take place.

UFC 97----TONIGHT

UFC 97 happens tonight in Montreal with the Middleweight belt on the line but for Chuck Liddell there is a lot more riding on this than a championship. After losing 3 of his last 4, 2 by KO including a one punch bomb landed by current LHW champ Rashad Evans, the Iceman is looking to get back in the hunt for the championship. For some people, myself included, I think Liddell needs a win or at the very least a real good performance to prove that he still belongs in the UFC. His chin has been checked and it will be interesting to see if he can return to his dominant form now that the rest of the division has seen that he is beatable. I was never a huge Chuck fan, although I give him credit for being an awesome fighter and one of the key figures in making the UFC what it is today, and I just don't see him winning tonight. I think Rua will be able to outstrike Liddell and win a decision. Shogun is younger and hungrier, having never been UFC Champion, and will outwork and outland Liddell. Either way, this should be a good one!!

As for the main event, I don't see Thales Leites beating Anderson Silva, I dont see him making it out of the first round either. The Spiders striking is just too good and hes no slouch on the ground either if Leites is able to take him down, which I doubt he will. First round KO for the Spider.

Also, look for winning fights by Cheick Kongo, Nate Quarry, and David Loiseau. Although all 3 of those fights look to be evenly matched and quite entertaining. Heres hoping UFC 97 is a good one, enjoy the fights.

And remember, if your options are tap out or pass out, just go to sleep!!

Dragon Looks to Make LHW Division "Sugar" Free

UFC 98 on May 23 features two undefeated fighters who will battle it out for the Light-Heavyweight Championship. "Sugar" Rashad Evans looks to continue his winning ways and his reign as champion against the unbeaten Lyoto "Dragon" Machida. Machida has one 6 straight fights in the UFC and is 14-0 overall in his mixed martial arts career. Evans is on a nice run as well, winning 8 out of 9 (with one draw against Tito Ortiz) in the octagon, including KO's against the likes of Chuck Liddell and Forrest Griffin.
I am really looking forward to this fight because I believe Machida will pick Evans apart from the opening bell until the end of the fight, whenever that may be. I have never liked Rashad, he is over-rated, has no advanced MMA skills, always looks tired in the cage and overall is just a clown. I realize he has amazing power and two of the greatest KO's in the sport, a one punch KO of "The Iceman" and a high kick KO of Sean Salmon, but all of that is negated by his attitude and little gestures he makes in the cage. I know that most, if not all, fighters do a little showboating in the cage but for some reason when Evans does it it makes my blood boil and I just wanna throw a brick at his goofy looking square head.
Machida has power, just ask Thiago Silva, and kis karate and unorthodox style will frustrate and confuse the outmatched Evans. I would love to see "The Dragon" KO Rashad but a decision is more likely. Either way it should one good title fight.

And remember, if your options are tap out or pass out, just go to sleep!!!

MATTS IN THE CAGE

Well it's finally gonna happen, after years of bad blood and extreme dislike towards each other, the two Matts are set to square off against each other. Matt Hughes and Matt Serra will meet at UFC 98 May 23 in a fight that was supposed to happen in 2007. Serra was unable to fight due to an injury so Georges St.Pierre stepped in and wiped the floor with Chipmunk Hughes.

Being a huge GSP fan I extremely dislike both Matts so I find it hard to root for one of them. However, it is a fight a long time in the making and it should be a good one and after a lot of thought I have decided to back Serra for the victory. Now that doesn't mean I think Serra will win, just that I hate Hughes a little bit more than I hate Serra.

Regardless of the outcome, Matt Hughes will end up in the hall as one of the greatest fighters of all time, and Serra will forever be the TUF 4 winner and the holder of one of the greatest MMA upsets of all time. I just hope this long awaited fight lives up to the hype.

Remember, if your options are tap out or pass out, just go to sleep.

This is the main event......IT'S TIME!!!!!!

First things first, I'd like to welcome all MMA fans to my blog, and although all fighters and leagues may be discussed here my main focus will be on fighters who fight in the UFC. There are some exceptions, but I feel that the best fighters in the world fight mainly in the best MMA league in the world, the UFC.

The are some very interesting matches on the horizon leading up to a monumental UFC 100, slated to take place this summer. UFC 97 takes place later this month and consists of two fights that could be considered main events. Is the Spider capable of being beaten in the UFC, and is the Iceman done has a serious threat in the light-heavyweight division. Anderson Silva can and will be beaten in the UFC, but not by Thales Leites. Leites has crazy BJJ, but the striking of Silva will be too much for him and will lead to a second round KO. As for the Iceman, his chin has been checked and he too will be the victim of a KO at the hands of Shogun Rua. Sorry Liddell fans but Chucks UFC days are numbered.

We'll get into other matches and events in the future but for now lets do a little thing I like to call "CRUNCH TIME". Crunch Time is a segment devoted to fighters who are in desperate need of a win, whether it is to jump-start a stalled career or land a promising fighter a title shot.

CRUNCH TIME

Chuck Liddell-lost 3 of last 4, 2 by KO
Wanderlei Silva-lost 4 of last 5, 3 by KO
Houston Alexander-started 2-0 in UFC but has lost 3 straight in first round, including
an 8 second KO at the hands of James Irvin.

Clay Guida-3 impressive wins in a row, has a date with Diego Sanchez in June at The US vs UK
Finale, with the winner likely receiving a title shot with B.J. Penn.
Lyoto Machida-after 14 straight wins, the last 6 in the UFC, The Dragon fights for the Light-
Heavyweight Championship at UFC 98. Looks like Rashads run as champ will
be a short one.

AFTER THE BELL

Just a few final thoughts before I post this inaugural blog.
Did anyone enjoy seeing Josh Koscheck get KO'ed at UFC 95 by Paulo Thiago, because I enjoyed the hell out of that. Didn't like Koscheck on TUF and I don't like him now. Gotta be honest, before that fight I had never heard of the undefeated (11-0) Paulo Thiago, now the dude is my hero.
After winning his weight class and securing a UFC contract at TUF 1, The Nightmare mowed down all competition until losing 2 straight decisions to Koscheck and Fitch, two of the top ranked welterweights in the division. Now Diego has decided to forgo any title aspirations as a welterweight and fights at lightweight. There's no doubt that Sanchez is a threat as a lightweight but I think he gave up too soon on a shot at a welterweight championship. I am a huge GSP fan and I believe he can beat all challengers, but until he beats Nightmare there will always be a "what if?" in the back of my mind.

Well that's it for now fight fans, I look forward to your comments and feedback about my blog.
Future blogs will include rankings, fighter bios, and other special features so subscribe and enjoy.

And remember, if your options are pass out or tap out, just go to sleep.
